Disney's First African American Princess Is Frame-Ready!

I wrote back in February about how it's going to be a whole new world at Disney with the debut of Princes Tiana, Disney’s first black princess. First in the year-long roll-out for the holiday 2009 movie were toys and costumes featuring the chocolate face of Princess Tiana. And now, the official The Princess and the Frog movie poster--get into it!

Want some more? Below, too, is the official Disney trailer of the movie, due for a soft release in late November, and a wide release in early December. Take a peek and tell me what you think. Around these parts, it's considered pretty doggone cute; my girls can't wait to see the real deal--a princess who looks like them--up on the big screen. Frankly, neither can I.

Press play and enjoy!

  4. I've been lurking around MBB, but never posted. I feel compelled to comment about this Disney movie, especially since I'm and Disney Movie Reward Club Member and expecting my first child (a girl!) this August. I admit I dread my daughter being a girly-girl. I was a total tomboy...rejected dolls and dresses. As an adult, I discovered Disney (I have a nice DVD collection..Aladdin and Enchanted are my favs and look forward to adding the long overdue Princess and the Frog). While I want to share these films with my baby girl, I have mixed feelings about the message content. I guess it will be one of those teachable moments

  6. I heard the interview of the actress who plays the Princess (I can't remember who it was now), the other day on NPR and loved it. It's about dang time, what took so long anyway?

(came by from SITS, you commented above me today.)

  9. This is the first time I am hearing about this movie and I think it's pretty neat. Actually I think it's about time. Unfortunately, with two boys, I'm pretty sure they will not be interested in Princess Tiana but I will definitely be supporting this movie. Can't wait to see it. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Cool. Looking forward to seeing the movie when it hits theaters. I am very glad to see a brown princess in the works so that I can finally feel comfortable enough to let my little brown princess eat up all of the toys, costumes and such.

  13. I have been hearing the buzz about this movie and I cannot wait. I don't have a daughter to share it with but I have loved Disney Princesses since The Little Mermaid. I hope this one has good music as they all do. I love Anika Noni Rose's voice! I may the grown up at the movies by herself! I am a little girl at heart!
