{Wordful Wednesday} We've Been Snowbound For Three Days :: Send. Help. Now.

We're snowbound. Again. Being held hostage by all the ice and a bunch of people who can't drive on said ice and a city that has absolutely no plan for removing it beyond "waiting," as my hilarious sister-in-law/BFF Angelou put it, "for the sun to come out." In the meantime, my kids are eating us out of house and home, bouncing off the walls, k-i-l-l-i-n-g me with the "I'm bored" and the "Can I."
God bless their teachers—one and all.
I do not know how they do it.
I promise you, I've kicked them out the house more than a coupla times. Nope—I don't care how cold it is. Get out. Do something. Rollerskate on the ice. Build a snowman. Take your camera out and get some pictures of nature in a deep freeze. Breathe heavy on the windows and draw your name in the steam. I don't care. Just. Get. Out. And take the dog with you.
This is them being cute in the snow. Just before Nick and I locked them out the house.
Maybe we'll let them back in.
Eventually.

  1. Awesome photos! I'm a winter girl. . .hence living in MN where we have had a crazy amount of snow this year! It hasn't been too cold either--but I guess that is a matter of opinion! :) I don't even think I have any photos of our snow posted on my much neglected blog. Your family is beautiful!!!

  2. Looks like so much fun. The most excitement we've gotten here in the Bay Area is frozen car windows. Its its gonna be this darn cold the least it could do is snow. Perhaps in 2012 :)

  5. @Jodilee: Wait: Did you say it's not cold out in the MN?! LOL! You gotta take pictures—your kids will love to see themselves frolicking in the white stuff!

@Barbara: Yeah, if it's going to be THAT cold, I'mma need some snow! At least you can use it as an excuse to kick the kids outside! Look at all the pretty show! Go play in it!

@LGWifey: HA! I know that's right. My dog actually likes it. He's been eating it like snow cones... I hope he stays away from the yellow snow. Ugh!

@MusingsOnMotherhood: Ooh—girl, I'm sorry. *makes sign of the cross* I don't even know what to tell you behind that!

  6. Girl I totally relate-- SMH at GA's way of handling this "storm". The grocery stores are a wasteland, the kids--you know-- and there's been no mail. I'm glad the sun came out today, lol.

  7. These are great shots of them. Ahh... cabin fever. It is the absolute worst thing ever! Doesn't it make you feel like you're gonna explode if you don't get outdoors?!

  9. @Alicia: Without question. *tosses self off side of the couch* Lila is playing "soccer" with the dog in front of me while I"m trying to edit this story for Essence. I promise you, she's going to find herself locked in her room any second now...

@Jodilee: OOOOH! I'm on my way right now...

  10. cute snaps even if they were taken in a frozen tundra. I'll be praying for "the sun to come out" so you all can get out of the igloo. :=)

  12. @Daree: I swear, I've NEVER seen anything like this. Like, how much does it cost to keep some rock salt around? I'm sure it's less than it costs to shut down the state for an entire week. I'd pay more taxes to get some rock salt and snow plows on standby. For reals.

  13. I'm trapped in Philly with a 3 y/o that doesnt want to go outside to play and I have to work from home today. What toddler doesnt love being in the snow? Oh yeah...mine.

    Your girls are beautiful!

  14. @Nubienne: Oooh—the worst. My kids at least like the snow. But after four days, it's played like an 8-track. That's the trouble with this: I work from home, so snow days off from school feels like I brought my kids into work. Can't get NOTHING done.

  19. i was reading the comments and i couldn't help but laugh. im sorry everybody, but u haven't SEEN snow/winter until you visit montreal, canada hahahahaha. nothing gets shut down. city is still on the move. people still drive, and public transportation still run (slowly but surely). i must say though this year, we didn't get much snow but the cold harsh bitter wind is just as bad.

  20. Girl! You know I feel you! It wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't come right on the heels of winter break; I had my fill of lying around and doing nothing (I don't do that very well at all). I love your photos; your dog looks like mine in the snow: "what the hell?"
